HOW MUCH SHOULD I SPEND ON WEDDING FLOWERS?
If flowers are an important part of your wedding day then you may want to think about spending around 20% - 25% of your wedding budget on them. It is important to decide on a flower budget for your wedding as this will help your florist to work out where your budget will be best spent. I often advise my couples to choose one large installation or concentrate their flowers in a particular part of the wedding ceremony or reception, rather than watering them down and placing flowers everywhere. An impactful ceiling dressed with flowers creates far more of a wow factor than having little arrangements of flowers throughout the venue. Flowers are an investment for your wedding and will leave you with beautiful photographs of your big day. Quite often your wedding day will go very very fast and you won’t take notice of the venue decor or aesthetic as much as your guests will, when you receive your photographs back then you will have a pleasant surprise!
Very often I speak with couples who have no idea how much wedding flowers are going to cost. I like to send a guide to my prices to every couple that enquires with me, this way they will have some idea how to budget for them when we start to discuss their plans. It is also a good idea to think about the space at your wedding venue and if there is one particular area you would like decorated. Perhaps the ceremony area will need flowers to create interest or the tables need lots of flowers.
I always recommend repurposing flowers from your ceremony to your reception if possible as this will make the most of your budget, for example aisle meadows can be used along the table centres. There maybe one particular flower installation or design that has been reproduced several times at your venue. This doesn’t mean that you need to have it also! Your florist will be able to recommend different options to fit in with your budget. Just because an arch has been featured several times before it doesn’t mean you have to have it, there are plenty of other designs that can cost less and look completely original.
Most florists will have a minimum spend on wedding flowers, mine is £1800. This amount will normally allow for personal flowers (bouquets, buttonholes etc) as well as table flowers and maybe an installation. Each florist will have an idea of the amount of flowers needed to create their signature look for each arrangement so costs will vary from florist to florist.
